This research evaluates the effectiveness of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) in Pulau Semambu Village, North Indralaya Subdistrict, Ogan Ilir Regency in 2020. The objective of this study is to analyze the impact of BUMDes on local welfare and rural economic development. A qualitative case study approach was employed to gain an in-depth analysis of the phenomena observed, prioritizing individual perspectives, in line with Nasution’s (2023) approach. The study examines the effectiveness of BUMDes by considering government support, community participation, and challenges in plastic waste management. It also addresses the long-term sustainability and scalability of the BUMDes program. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that while BUMDes has improved the village economy and environment, challenges such as fluctuating waste prices, lack of skills, and low community participation persist. Positive aspects include government and external support, as well as high environmental awareness. The research concludes that government involvement, external support, and community engagement are key factors for the success of BUMDes. Recommendations for policy improvements and strategic planning are also provided, emphasizing the importance of enhancing training, education, and market development to overcome challenges and increase community participation, thereby ensuring the sustainability and positive impact of the program.
